Trésor Mputu Returns to TP Mazembe After Disappointing Spell in Angola
Congolese star midfielder Trésor Mputu is officially returning to TP Mazembe, marking the end of a difficult chapter in Angola with Kabuscorp. The news, reported by Africa Top Sports, has been welcomed warmly by the Lubumbashi club and its supporters, who continue to regard Mputu as one of their most iconic players.
Mputu left TP Mazembe in 2014 to join Kabuscorp with high hopes, but his experience quickly turned sour—especially in financial terms. In an emotional explanation of his decision, the midfielder revealed the deep struggles he endured off the pitch.
“I was kept waiting, and I finally realized that the president of Kabuscorp no longer had the resources he had before,” Mputu said. “I continued with the idea that we would eventually sign the contract, but even my bonuses weren’t being paid regularly. I was unable to support my family, my home, or send my children to school in Europe. In such a situation, how can I live in a foreign country?”
His return is not just a sentimental reunion but a significant boost for TP Mazembe, especially as the club enters a decisive phase in both domestic and continental competitions. Coach Patrice Carteron has long felt Mputu’s absence, both tactically and psychologically.
“Trésor’s shadow still looms large,” Carteron noted. “Even now, we see a slight lack of confidence among some of our attacking players. He carried so much responsibility on his shoulders that he took it away from others. He protected them with his presence and his charisma. This season, we’ve seen players creating chances but struggling to finish—something Mputu excelled at.”
Mputu’s return comes at a time when Mazembe are pushing for titles and need both leadership and experience. The midfielder’s creativity, composure, and influence could prove decisive in lifting the squad’s morale and performance.
As one of the most talented players in Congolese football history, Mputu’s homecoming symbolizes more than just a transfer—it represents unfinished business and the hope of rekindling the magic that made him a household name across African football.
