Swansea Reject West Ham Bid for Frustrated Gomis as Transfer Deadline Looms
Bafétimbi Gomis will likely remain a Swansea City player beyond the close of the winter transfer window, despite clear interest from fellow Premier League side West Ham United.
The 29-year-old French international, who has openly expressed a desire to move abroad in recent weeks, was reportedly the subject of a €7 million bid from the Hammers, according to Sky Sports. The offer came as West Ham searched for attacking reinforcements to cover for a spate of injuries, including the long-term absence of striker Andy Carroll.
However, Swansea have turned down the bid, indicating they are not prepared to part ways with Gomis at this stage of the season — especially after the recent departure of first-choice striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City. With Bony gone, Gomis is expected to receive more regular playing time in the second half of the campaign.
The former Lyon forward has struggled to make a significant impact since arriving in Wales last summer. He has made 19 Premier League appearances so far this season but has found the net just once. His limited involvement has fuelled speculation about his future, with Gomis himself hinting at dissatisfaction over his role under manager Garry Monk.
West Ham’s attempt to secure his services on loan, with a possible permanent deal, was seen as a potential lifeline for the striker to revive his form and confidence elsewhere in the Premier League. But for now, Swansea appear intent on holding onto the Frenchman as they navigate the remainder of the season without Bony.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it seems Gomis will have to focus on proving himself at the Liberty Stadium — a task that could define the next phase of his career.
