Greek giants Olympiacos have officially announced the signing of Algerian international Hilal Soudani on Tuesday, although the club did not disclose the length of the contract or the transfer fee involved. The move marks a new chapter for the 31-year-old forward, who is looking to revive his career following a difficult season.
Soudani, who previously played for Nottingham Forest in the English Championship, missed most of last season due to a cruciate ligament rupture. Limited to just eight appearances and scoring only two goals, the Algerian international endured a challenging campaign and was seeking a fresh start to regain his form and confidence. Olympiacos, who finished second in the Greek Super League last season, presented an opportunity for Soudani to return to regular competitive football and make an impact.
The striker’s move to Olympiacos also means he will be joining the fourth club of his professional career. Soudani began his senior career with ASO Chlef in Algeria before moving to Europe, where he played for Vitoria Guimarães in Portugal and Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, achieving notable success, including league titles and individual accolades. His experience across multiple European leagues is expected to strengthen Olympiacos’ attacking options as they aim to compete domestically and in European competitions.
Soudani will not be participating in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, as he was not included in Algeria’s 23-man squad for the tournament. His focus will now shift entirely to helping Olympiacos challenge for the Greek league title and perform well in continental competitions. The club is counting on his experience, technical skill, and versatility in attack to provide depth and goal-scoring ability.
After a season marred by injury, this transfer represents a crucial opportunity for Soudani to rebuild his career, regain match fitness, and reestablish himself as a key contributor at club level. His journey underscores the challenges professional footballers can face with injuries and the importance of finding the right environment to recover and excel.
