Faty Eyes Ligue 1 Stay After Ajaccio Relegation
Ricardo Faty has admitted that his future with AC Ajaccio is uncertain following the club’s relegation from Ligue 1, as the Senegal international looks to continue his career at the top level of French football.
The Corsican side endured a dismal 2013–14 campaign, finishing bottom of the table and never seriously threatening to escape the drop. Faty, who is still under contract, is reluctant to continue with the club in Ligue 2 and is now weighing up his options.
“Honestly, it seems complicated,” Faty told reporters. “Even though I’m still under contract, playing in Ligue 2 is not part of my career plan. I’m 27, and I want to continue playing in Ligue 1.”
The former AS Roma and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder joined Ajaccio in 2012 and has made over 60 appearances for the club. A physically imposing presence in the heart of midfield, Faty has expressed his desire to remain in the French top flight, but isn’t ruling out a move abroad.
“For the moment, I’m calm. If a transfer has to happen, it will happen,” he added. “My priority is to stay in Ligue 1. This league is improving every year. But I’ve always enjoyed Serie A—I speak the language, and I like the Italian lifestyle. The Premier League could also be interesting. It’s a league that would suit my style, and I could see myself as a proper box-to-box midfielder there. I also have many friends playing in England.”
With clubs beginning to prepare their squads for next season, Faty’s blend of experience and athleticism could attract interest from teams in need of a strong midfield presence. However, for now, the Lion of Teranga remains in limbo as he waits to see what opportunities arise during the summer transfer window.
