Chelsea’s Gaël Kakuta Set for Permanent Move to Sevilla
Gaël Kakuta is set to complete a permanent move to Sevilla FC, bringing an end to a nomadic spell at Chelsea that included several loan spells across Europe.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who impressed this season while on loan at Rayo Vallecano, is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Andalusian club. According to reports from Mercato365, the transfer fee is estimated at €3 million.
Kakuta, a former France youth international of Congolese origin, played a standout season at Rayo, contributing five goals and seven assists in La Liga. His performances under coach Paco Jémez helped cement his role as a key part of the team’s attacking setup, reigniting a career that had stalled since his move to Chelsea.
Having joined Chelsea from RC Lens amid much fanfare in 2007, Kakuta was once considered one of the brightest prospects in European football. However, he struggled to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge and spent most of his time out on loan, with stints at Fulham, Bolton, Dijon, Vitesse Arnhem, Lazio, and most recently Rayo Vallecano.
The move to Sevilla, a club known for nurturing attacking talent and competing regularly in European competitions, offers Kakuta a fresh start and a more stable environment to develop his potential.
Kakuta, who endured a major injury setback in 2009 with a fractured leg and ankle, now seems poised to reestablish himself at the top level.
