Benzema Calm Amid Contract Uncertainty as Real Madrid Eyes Suarez
Karim Benzema remains composed despite an uncertain contract situation at Real Madrid and rising speculation over the club’s interest in Liverpool striker Luis Suárez. The French international, who scored 17 goals in La Liga this season, is in the final year of his contract and is currently in negotiations for an extension.
The situation has not gone unnoticed by Premier League side Arsenal, who are reportedly monitoring developments closely. With Benzema’s contract expiring in a year, his transfer value could significantly decrease—a factor Arsenal may try to leverage in the upcoming summer window.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to spend between €90 million and €100 million to bring in Luis Suárez. Should that deal materialise, Suárez would likely take over the central striker role in Madrid’s 4-3-3 system, potentially sidelining Benzema.
Despite the swirling rumours, Benzema has made it clear he isn’t losing sleep over the competition. Speaking to Marca, he said:
“I sleep well, I get up and eat well. Everyone can come, and even more so to Madrid, where all the best come. I work every day to play for Madrid. I don’t feel any particular pressure. [Suárez] is a great player and had a great season, but in football, you have to have several. If he comes, he will help us.”
The former Olympique Lyonnais forward added that he is happy in Madrid and hopes to secure a contract renewal.
“The media can say what they want. I have a contract, I’m in Madrid and if I can stay in Madrid all my life, then I will. I came here to win titles. If it were up to me, I would always stay here. My extension? I hope to reach an agreement with Real Madrid; there is no other club like this. Every year I feel better, and I just think about Madrid. I’m happy here with my family.”
For now, it seems Benzema’s transfer window will remain relatively quiet, with a contract extension appearing more likely than an exit—unless Real Madrid’s pursuit of Suárez drastically changes the equation.
