Bacary Sagna Nears Move to Fenerbahçe as Contract Talks with Arsenal Stall
Bacary Sagna, the experienced French right-back currently with Arsenal, is on the verge of leaving the Premier League club as he enters the final months of his contract, which expires in June. Rumors of his departure have been circulating for several weeks, and the 31-year-old is reportedly drawing interest from foreign clubs, with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe emerging as the frontrunners for his signature.
According to L’Equipe, negotiations between Sagna and Fenerbahçe are well advanced, with the Turkish club offering a two-year contract, plus an additional optional year, and a lucrative salary of €2.8 million per year. If the move goes through, it would mark a significant pay rise for the French international, who currently earns around €150,000 per month at Arsenal.
While Sagna has been approached about returning to the French league, it seems increasingly likely that he will make a move to Turkey, with Fenerbahçe poised to secure his services. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger confirmed that talks over a contract extension for the right-back were “not progressing,” signaling that Sagna’s time at the club may be coming to an end after an eight-year stint that began in 2007 following his move from Auxerre.
The move to Fenerbahçe would see Sagna continue his career in a new challenge, with the opportunity to play in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues while also doubling his current salary.
