Breston Sambula Malula joins Romanian top-flight club Petrolul Ploiesti

Congolese centre-back Breston Sambula Malula has completed a move to Romanian top-flight club Petrolul Ploiesti after leaving Swiss second-tier side Stade Lausanne Ouchy as a free agent, marking the next chapter in his professional career.

The defender became available after opting not to activate the additional year included in his contract with Stade Lausanne Ouchy. Instead, he chose to keep his options open in pursuit of a move outside Switzerland, a decision that has now led him to Romania’s First Division.

The transfer represents an important step forward for the Congolese defender, who will now test himself in a new league while competing at a higher level of football.

After spending last season in Switzerland’s second division, Malula will now have the opportunity to establish himself in the Romanian top flight, where the level of competition and expectations are significantly greater.

His arrival also comes at an ideal stage of the campaign, with the new season approaching and pre-season preparations already under way.

The former Stade Lausanne Ouchy player will work alongside his new teammates from the beginning of the preparations, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to assess his qualities before the competitive fixtures begin.

Malula will be aiming to make a strong impression during pre-season as he looks to earn a place in Petrolul Ploiesti’s starting line-up.

Competition for places is expected to be fierce, but the Congolese defender will hope that his performances over the past campaign provide a solid foundation as he adapts to his new surroundings.

The move follows a productive season in Switzerland, where the Young Boys Bern player featured regularly while on duty for Stade Lausanne Ouchy. His consistency throughout the campaign helped him establish himself as an important member of the squad.

Across all competitions last season, Malula made 37 appearances, underlining his durability and importance to the team.

He will now look to replicate that level of involvement in Romania if he earns the confidence of Petrolul Ploiesti’s technical staff.

For the Congolese defender, the transfer offers both a fresh challenge and the chance to prove himself in a higher-ranked league as he begins a new phase of his career.
