In a tragic incident, a SuperSport TV crew member was shot and killed during an abduction in Nigeria while en route to cover an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.
The crew of seven, travelling from Lagos to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was attacked and kidnapped along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Anambra State on Friday.
Six of the crew members were successfully rescued by local police forces, while the seventh member tragically lost their life in the attack.
The SuperSport team was preparing to cover the AFCON 2025 qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The news of this attack was first reported by respected football journalist Colin Udoh and confirmed by South African anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee.
The incident has left the sports community in shock, with condolences pouring in for the victim and their family.
