A solemn incident occurred at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as 34-year-old footballer Sodiq Adebisi tragically passed away during a routine training session on Saturday.
The distressing turn of events unfolded when Sodiq suddenly collapsed while engaged in training. Swift action by his teammates led to him being immediately rushed to a nearby state hospital in Ijebu-Ode. Despite their efforts, Sodiq Adebisi was pronounced dead on the same day he was admitted to the hospital.
Confirming the tragic occurrence, Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, expressed acknowledgment of the incident. Additionally, she highlighted that Ganiyu Adebisi, the deceased’s brother, approached the Igbeba Police Division to claim Sodiq’s body for burial, expressing the family’s wish to proceed with Islamic burial rites without a formal investigation.
“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family said they don’t want any investigation and that they wanted to bury the deceased according to Islamic rite,” Odutola stated, outlining the family’s earnest desire to honor their loved one’s memory in accordance with their traditions.
