The football world has been struck with sadness as news emerges of the untimely passing of 30-year-old winger, Ahmed Refaat, who played for Egyptian club Modern Future FC.
He had been battling heart problems for some time and tragically collapsed on the field during a match against Ittihad Alexandria four months ago.
Despite his courageous determination, Refaat slipped into a coma but remarkably regained consciousness two weeks later.
Sadly, his body could not overcome the condition, leading to his passing and leaving the football community in mourning.
His club, Modern Future, announced the devastating news on Saturday morning, honouring his remarkable talent, unwavering dedication, and indomitable spirit.
Refaat made a significant impact in the Egyptian Premier League, playing 183 matches and scoring 43 goals, while also providing 30 assists for Modern Future, Ittihad, ENPPI, Al Masry, and Zamalek SC.
He also had a loan spell with Emirati club Al Wahda in the 2022-23 season, where he made six appearances, scoring one goal and delivering three assists.
On a national level, Refaat made his debut for the Egyptian national team in 2013, playing against Uganda in an international friendly.
He represented his country with pride, earning 7 caps and scoring twice.
The football world has truly lost a talented player, and we offer our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved him.
