Trabzonspor draw Freiburg and Red Star Belgrade in Conference League schedule

Trabzonspor have been handed a six-match campaign featuring SC Freiburg, Red Star Belgrade and Heart of Midlothian in the UEFA Conference League after dropping into the competition following their Europa League qualifying defeat by Ferencvarosi.

The Turkish club were drawn at home against SC Freiburg in their opening listed fixture, before travelling to face Red Star Belgrade. They will then host Heart of Midlothian, visit KuPS, welcome FK Jablonec and complete the schedule away to CSKA Sofia.

UEFA conducted the draw on Friday, with Trabzonspor receiving what was described as a balanced set of opponents for their Conference League campaign.

The club’s route through the competition was confirmed after they failed to progress beyond the qualifying stage of the UEFA Europa League. Trabzonspor were beaten by Ferencvarosi in both legs of their tie, meaning their European campaign continues in the Conference League.

The six-match sequence gives Trabzonspor three home fixtures and three away games. Their programme includes opposition from Germany, Serbia, Scotland, Finland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

The opening home meeting with SC Freiburg will be followed by the trip to Red Star Belgrade, before Trabzonspor return to their own stadium to face Heart of Midlothian. Their next away assignment will be against KuPS, with FK Jablonec then visiting Trabzonspor. The campaign’s final listed match is an away fixture against CSKA Sofia.

The full fixture schedule, including the dates and kick-off times for each match, is due to be released by UEFA on Saturday.

Trabzonspor will now prepare for a new European challenge after their unsuccessful Europa League qualifying tie. The club’s immediate task will be to build momentum for a Conference League phase that combines home matches against SC Freiburg, Heart of Midlothian and FK Jablonec with away trips to Red Star Belgrade, KuPS and CSKA Sofia.
