Trabzonspor confirm Mohamed Salah approach after Egyptian pyramid post

Trabzonspor have announced that they have opened negotiations to sign Mohamed Salah, confirming their interest in the former Liverpool forward after hinting at a possible move with a video of Egypt’s pyramids.

The Turkish club published a statement on its official account on X on Tuesday evening, saying: “Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of Mohamed Salah to our club.”

Trabzonspor did not provide further information about the discussions. The club has not disclosed the possible transfer fee, the length of any proposed contract or how far the talks have progressed between the parties.

Shortly before the statement was released, Trabzonspor’s official account posted a video showing the Egyptian pyramids. The post was interpreted as a suggestion that the club was close to reaching an agreement with Salah.

Turkish media reports had claimed earlier that Trabzonspor had already reached an agreement with the 34-year-old player and his agent, Ramy Abbas, over a two-year contract.

The same reports said Salah was expected to travel to Turkey within the next few hours to sign the deal, with an official announcement of the transfer to follow.

However, Trabzonspor’s statement only confirmed the start of negotiations and did not say that an agreement had been completed.

Salah, who left Liverpool at the end of last season, has been linked with a number of clubs since his departure from the Premier League side. Talks with another Turkish club, Besiktas, had previously been reported, but those negotiations broke down.

The Egypt international has also been linked with several Saudi Arabian clubs, including Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah and Al-Diriyah.

His next move has therefore remained the subject of considerable speculation, with Trabzonspor now becoming the latest club to publicly confirm talks over a potential transfer.

The Turkish side’s social-media activity had already drawn attention before its formal announcement. A video also emerged showing a supporter calling for Salah to join Trabzonspor, followed by the player’s reaction. The clip was circulated with the prompt: “In the video: A fan asks Salah to move to Trabzonspor… watch his reaction!”

Trabzonspor have not revealed when the negotiations will conclude or whether Salah’s proposed visit to Turkey will take place.
