Toulouse set to sign Mathis Amougou on loan

Toulouse are expected to strengthen their midfield with the loan signing of Mathis Amougou from Strasbourg before the transfer deadline.

The proposed move contains no option to buy, according to reports, and follows several days of interest from the Ligue 1 club.

Relations between the two sides may have helped progress the deal. Toulouse previously secured Pape Demba Diop on loan from Strasbourg last winter, an arrangement viewed as successful by the club. Amougou now appears set to become the latest player to make the same journey.

The 20-year-old midfielder began his career at Saint-Étienne before Chelsea signed him for around €15 million in February 2025. He later joined Strasbourg for €12 million but struggled to establish himself, recording 19 appearances, no goals and no assists in 794 minutes.

He started only nine matches in all competitions, including four Ligue 1 games last season. Toulouse have space in midfield after Mario Sauer joined Kaiserslautern on loan, while Cristian Cásseres could yet depart before the window closes.

Amougou’s arrival would provide coach Jens Berthel Askou with an extra option and a chance for the young France Under-20 international to rebuild his momentum through regular minutes.
