Striker Breel Embolo will not be leaving AS Monaco this winter, despite Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in securing his services.
The Swiss international, valued at €20 million by the Ligue 1 club, was on Spurs’ radar as they searched for a striker, but he will remain in the Principality until at least the end of the season, according to L’Équipe.
Tottenham’s hunt for attacking reinforcements has seen multiple setbacks. Randal Kolo Muani was an early target but chose a loan move to Juventus instead. On Friday, Mathys Tel rejected a move to North London despite Bayern Munich reaching an agreement with the club.
With Monaco signing Mika Biereth earlier in the window and Folarin Balogun and George Ilenikhena set to return from injury, competition for places in the attack is heating up.
Embolo’s future could be revisited in the summer, but for now, the 27-year-old remains part of head coach Adi Hütter’s plans.
