Tottenham need time to gel after summer rebuild, says football operations director

Tottenham Hotspur football operations director Ravi Morson says the club need time to develop after a difficult start to the season and the arrival of several new players, including Omar Marmoush.

Tottenham are 17th in the English league table after three rounds, having suffered two defeats and drawn one match.

“The previous seasons at Tottenham were not successful and we want to improve,” Morson told On Sport. “That is why we signed new players this season. There are many things we want to do and improve.”

He added: “We hope to reach the position we deserve after bringing in players of high quality to develop our performances.”

Tottenham’s summer recruitment included Marmoush and Savinho from Manchester City, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and former Liverpool player Andy Robertson.

The club also signed Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcus Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Matheus Fernandes.

Morson said the team’s early results were partly the result of players still adapting to one another.

“Every project needs some time to develop,” he said. “We brought in a number of players and, during this period, our focus has been on helping them settle so they can achieve understanding and harmony with each other.”

He added: “We have made significant efforts and brought in many players from inside and outside the English league. At this stage, we are concentrating on making sure the players adapt to one another so that harmony can be achieved.”

Morson also praised Marmoush, who joined Tottenham from Manchester City.

“He is an ambitious person with great ability,” he said. “We saw the impact he made after joining Manchester City, as well as the efficiency and quality he brought to the team.”

Morson said Tottenham believed Marmoush could help raise their level in the future.

“We felt it was important to sign Marmoush so that we could improve our level in the future,” he said. “Marmoush is now more motivated than before, and he will perform well in the matches to come.”

He concluded: “Omar Marmoush is one of the most successful players in the world. We saw that he was an inspiration on the pitch and that he has great ambition. That is why we signed him, and we look forward to achieving success in the near future with him.”
