Cody Gakpo calls Liverpool's sacking of Slot disappointing

Tottenham Hotspur are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market, with manager Roberto De Zerbi now prioritising the signing of a winger after an extraordinary summer spending spree.

Having already surpassed the £200 million mark on new arrivals, Spurs are preparing to intensify their search for another attacking option, with Savinho, Rafael Leão and Cody Gakpo emerging as leading candidates.

The North London club are keen to add pace and creativity out wide as De Zerbi continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Savinho remains the preferred target

Tottenham have retained a long-standing interest in Manchester City winger Savinho after failing to secure him during the January transfer window.

The Brazilian joined Manchester City F.C. in 2024 following an impressive loan spell at Girona FC, but opportunities at the Etihad Stadium have been limited.

Spurs previously attempted to sign the 22-year-old on loan, only for City to reject the proposal as they sought to preserve squad depth during the closing stages of the season.

Now, with City reportedly willing to consider offers worth around £30 million, Tottenham are expected to revive their pursuit as De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options.

Leão and Gakpo enter the frame

If a move for Savinho proves difficult, Tottenham have identified two high-profile alternatives.

One is AC Milan star Rafael Leão, whose future has become the subject of growing speculation after the Italian giants failed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. That setback could force Milan to consider offers below the Portugal international’s previous market valuation.

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has also emerged as a serious option. Reports suggest the Dutch international could be available following changes to the Reds’ attacking plans after the arrival of Victor Muñoz from Osasuna.

Although Gakpo is expected to command a fee closer to £45 million, his four seasons of Premier League experience make him an attractive target for a Tottenham side seeking proven quality.

De Zerbi continues major squad rebuild

The search for another winger follows one of the busiest transfer windows in Tottenham’s history.

De Zerbi began the summer by securing experienced duo Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers before strengthening his defence with the arrival of Jan Paul van Hecke ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The Italian has since broken the club’s transfer record twice, first with an £85 million move for Mateus Fernandes before completing a blockbuster £100 million deal for Sandro Tonali.

With significant investment already made across defence and midfield, Tottenham’s attention has now shifted to adding firepower on the flanks.
