Tottenham Hotspur: Seydou Doumbia Linked with Potential Move

Tottenham Target Ivorian Striker Seydou Doumbia for January Move

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the market for attacking reinforcements, and their sights are set on prolific Ivorian forward Seydou Doumbia.

Despite already boasting a strikeforce that includes seasoned internationals Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, Spurs are said to be monitoring Doumbia’s situation closely. According to the London Evening Standard, the North London club could make a formal approach for the CSKA Moscow striker as early as the upcoming January transfer window.

Doumbia, 26, has long been admired in Premier League circles. Newcastle United have also expressed interest in securing his services, but the former Young Boys of Bern star has previously stated his intention to see out his contract in Russia, which runs until June 2016.

However, that stance could yet change. After struggling with a series of injuries in recent months, the Ivorian international — nicknamed “the Elephant” in reference to Côte d’Ivoire’s national team — appears to have regained form and fitness. He has already netted seven goals in the Russian Premier League this season, along with three more in the UEFA Champions League, re-establishing himself as one of CSKA Moscow’s key attacking assets.

Doumbia’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed, and with Tottenham eager to bolster their attacking options, especially amid concerns over consistency in front of goal, a January bid seems increasingly likely.

Still, prising the striker away from Moscow won’t come cheap. Doumbia was named the Russian Premier League’s best player last season, and CSKA are expected to demand a significant fee to part ways with one of their top performers.

With the transfer window fast approaching and competition from other English clubs heating up, Tottenham may need to move quickly — and decisively — if they hope to bring Doumbia to White Hart Lane.
