During the challenging negotiations between Real Madrid and Tottenham for Gareth Bale, Spurs attempted to include Emmanuel Adebayor in the deal, as reported by the Daily Mail. The English newspaper confirms that Daniel Levy, president of Tottenham, offered the Togolese striker to Real Madrid in addition to Bale.
However, this attempt failed as Carlo Ancelotti did not want Adebayor, according to the information. There are rumors that Andre Villas-Boas no longer sees Adebayor as part of his plans, especially with the arrival of the Spaniard Roberto Soldado, who is expected to take the lead role this season. Tottenham is reportedly eager to part ways with Adebayor due to his substantial salary of €120,000 per week.
The captain of the Togo national team had previously completed a loan spell with Real Madrid in 2011 under Jose Mourinho. Besiktas is currently the only club still in consideration to recruit Adebayor. The player was granted leave to be with his family following the death of his brother two weeks ago. Before that, he played in pre-season matches against Colchester (a half, 0-0) and in the Barclays Asia Trophy against Sunderland (90 minutes, 1-3).
