Emmanuel Adebayor Could Move to MLS as Tottenham Look to Revamp Attack
Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor is reportedly set to leave Tottenham Hotspur, with Major League Soccer (MLS) emerging as a possible destination, according to The Times. The 30-year-old has fallen out of favor at Spurs, having not appeared for the club since November 2014. His last game was a 2-1 defeat to Stoke City, where he made headlines for controversial remarks following the match.
“I think it’s better if we play away,” Adebayor said after being left on the bench for the defeat. “At least I’ll know that the majority of people booing us are the opposing supporters, not our own. It’s hard knowing that the slightest mistake you make will have the fans booing you.” His comments reportedly caused tension between the striker and Tottenham’s supporters, further distancing him from the club.
With his contract expiring in 2015, the former Real Madrid player has seen limited playing time this season, scoring just two goals. Tottenham is reportedly keen to part ways with Adebayor to refresh their attacking options.
A potential move to MLS offers the striker a chance to reboot his career, away from the pressures of Premier League football. Additionally, Torino in Italy and some Qatari clubs have also shown interest, though it seems MLS could be a more likely option for the veteran forward.
Given his falling out at Spurs and limited role, a fresh start in MLS could be the right move for Adebayor, who has seen better days but still possesses the talent to make an impact in a new environment.
