Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are preparing moves for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee as the Dutch forward pushes for a way out amid growing uncertainty over his role at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee has been sidelined by a muscular problem and was absent from interim manager Michael Carrick’s first two matchday squads, which produced statement wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
While the 24-year-old is expected to return to fitness within the next fortnight, there is little expectation he will immediately reclaim a prominent role, having largely been used as an impact substitute rather than a regular starter this season.
United’s recent success without him has only fuelled speculation over his future. According to reports from GIVEMESPORT, several Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation closely, convinced that a deal could be possible before the January transfer window closes.
Tottenham and Palace have emerged as the leading contenders. Spurs are assessing their attacking options despite the return of Dominic Solanke, who strengthens Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the second half of the campaign. Zirkzee is viewed as a versatile option who could add depth and a different profile to their forward line.
Palace, meanwhile, may soon have a more urgent need. With Jean-Philippe Mateta strongly linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, the south London club are weighing up replacements and see Zirkzee as a potential short-term solution.
His modest return of two goals in 14 Premier League appearances this season could allow Palace to negotiate a cut-price deal.
