Tottenham agree deal for Manchester City winger Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City, subject to the player receiving a work permit. The club have not disclosed the length of his contract.

The 22-year-old becomes Tottenham’s latest addition after spending two seasons with Manchester City. He is a Brazil international and is known for his pace and exciting style of play from the wing.

Savinho said: “It took some time, but I am very happy to be here. It is a great opportunity at a special club, with one of the best managers in the world.”

He added: “As soon as I spoke to the manager, I realised that I had to come here. He told me that he wanted to help me reach the highest level, and I believe that we can achieve that together, as a team.”

Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange said Savinho had been on the club’s radar for some time before the transfer was completed.

“Savinho is a player who has been of interest to us for some time, and I am pleased that he has now joined Tottenham Hotspur,” said Lange.

“He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe that his ability, style and mentality will fit brilliantly with the team we are building here.”

Lange added: “I know he will excite our supporters every time the ball comes to him, and I am looking forward to watching his development under Roberto.”

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said Savinho would add energy, creativity and quality to the team’s wide areas.

“Savinho is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality to the wide positions,” said De Zerbi.

“He has the courage to take on defenders and the ability to change the course of a match through his creativity.”

De Zerbi added: “We are very happy to have him with us, and I am looking forward to working with him, helping him to continue developing, and seeing him add his personality to the team.”

The move brings Savinho to Tottenham after his two-season spell at Manchester City. The winger’s transfer remains conditional on approval of his work permit, while the financial terms and duration of his agreement with Tottenham have not been revealed.

His arrival is being presented by the club as an opportunity for him to continue developing under De Zerbi. Lange said the club believed Savinho’s qualities and approach would suit the side being built at Tottenham, while De Zerbi highlighted his ability to challenge defenders and influence matches through individual creativity.

Savinho will now join Tottenham’s squad once the work-permit requirement has been completed. The Brazilian’s pace, attacking style and willingness to confront opponents are expected to be central to the role outlined for him by the club’s sporting director and manager.
