Tortol Lumanza is making a fresh start by leaving Standard Liège for Waasland-Beveren. The Belgian midfielder of Congolese descent recently released by Standard, has been given a chance at Waasland-Beveren to train initially with their U21 squad as a non-professional. This period is meant for him to regain form and demonstrate his potential.
Waasland-Beveren’s statement highlighted that Lumanza will be integrated into the professional setup, and if he impresses, he could sign a professional contract and join the first team.
Despite some appearances early last season, Lumanza didn’t manage to secure regular playing time at Standard and was told this summer he could leave. Trained initially at Germinal-Beerschot before moving to Standard, he also earned some youth caps for Belgium. His experience includes about 20 league games for Standard, including Europa League and Champions League qualifiers, plus a loan spell at Sint-Truiden in 2013-2014 where he scored 3 goals in 23 matches.
This move to Waasland-Beveren offers him a valuable opportunity to revive his career and prove himself again at the professional level.
