Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah was on target once more on Sunday evening as Liverpool and Manchester United played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at Anfield in one of the most anticipated English Premier League clashes of the season.
The first half was a tactical battle, with both sides creating opportunities but lacking the clinical edge to break the deadlock. Manchester United came close when Diogo Dalot’s cross found Amad Diallo unmarked, but the young forward failed to direct his header on target.
Liverpool, on the other hand, saw Luis Díaz and Alexis Mac Allister miss promising chances, while United’s Rasmus Højlund had his effort brilliantly saved by Alisson Becker just before the break.
The game came to life in the second half, with Lisandro Martínez opening the scoring in the 52nd minute. The Argentine intercepted a loose pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, combined with Bruno Fernandes, and unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner to give Manchester United a rare lead at Anfield.
Liverpool responded swiftly, levelling the match through Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman showed great composure to cut inside Matthijs de Ligt and curl a shot into the far corner after being set up by Mac Allister.
The Reds then took the lead when De Ligt was penalized for a handball inside the box.
Mohamed Salah stepped up and converted the penalty, despite André Onana getting a hand to it. Salah’s goal continued his remarkable form, further solidifying his status as one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers.
United found a way back into the match through substitute Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine winger made an instant impact, delivering a low cross into the box that Amad Diallo coolly converted to equalize.
Mohamed Salah’s goal in the 2-2 draw means he now has 18 goals and 13 assists after making 19 appearances in the English Premier League this season.
