Tolu Arokodare: Nigeria striker joins Ajax on loan from Wolves

Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare has joined Ajax on loan from Wolves, with the 25-year-old centre-forward moving to the Dutch giants for the 2026-27 season.

The 1.97m striker, who wears the number 99 shirt, arrives in Amsterdam after a year at Molineux, where he had signed from Belgian side Genk for €26m in 2025. His loan to Ajax runs until 30 June 2027, after which he is due to return to the English club.

Arokodare’s switch gives Ajax a physically imposing focal point in attack, with the right-footed Nigerian having built a reputation as a goalscorer in Belgium and France. He was the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League in 2024-25 with 21 goals and previously finished as leading marksman in the Coupe de France in 2021-22 with five goals.

Before moving to England, Arokodare scored 27 league goals and provided 10 assists across 68 Jupiler Pro League appearances for Genk, having joined them from Amiens. His earlier career also included prolific spells with Valmiera in Latvia, where he hit 22 goals in 32 Virsliga matches, and a loan stint in the Bundesliga with Cologne.

Despite Wolves suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2025-26, Arokodare gained top-flight experience in England with 33 appearances, adding to earlier outings in European competition including the Europa Conference League and Champions League qualifying rounds.

Arokodare’s arrival means Ajax secure a proven goalscorer on a season-long loan from Wolves ahead of the new Eredivisie campaign.
