Kalen Damessi is targeting a return to professional football in the Ivorian Ligue 1 as he plots a comeback from retirement at the age of 33.
The former Togo international confirmed his ambition to rejoin the top level of competition during an interview with Ivorian radio station Nostalgie. Damessi, who has been away from the game in recent years, stated his determination to make a full return to action in time for the upcoming season.
“The passion is still alive,” Damessi said. “I feel ready to take on this challenge.”
Once considered one of Togo’s most promising attacking talents, Damessi had stints with several French clubs including Toulouse and Lille before earning call-ups to the Togolese national team.
Now, with his sights set on Ivorian football, he believes his experience and ability could prove to be a valuable addition for any team in the domestic top flight.
Far from seeing age as a barrier, the seasoned striker has already begun an intensive personal fitness programme to prepare for the demands of a professional return.
“I am training hard to be ready, both physically and mentally,” he explained. “My goal is to join an ambitious club and play a meaningful role in their success.”
Damessi’s potential comeback comes at a time when Ivorian Ligue 1 clubs are increasingly open to signing experienced players who can bring leadership to youthful squads.
His pedigree—developed through years in the competitive environment of French football and at international level with Togo—could make him a sought-after figure in the transfer market this off-season.
While no club has yet officially declared interest, Damessi’s public declaration has already generated conversation within local football circles.
With his name once again in the spotlight, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether the former Togo forward will secure a new contract.
