Emmanuel Adebayor has made it clear he holds no sympathy for Barcelona following their recent elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Inter Milan.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to former club Real Madrid with a mix of candour and humour.
Speaking during a light-hearted exchange with popular TikToker Antala, the former Togolese international did not mince words when asked about his reaction to Barcelona’s European exit.
“It was a good match to watch on TV, I really enjoyed it,” Adebayor said of the two-legged tie. “The first leg was magnificent, and the return leg was full of goals and emotion.”
Despite the disappointment on the Blaugrana side, the 40-year-old praised the quality of the contest. “These are matches made for the spectators.
There were a lot of goals, so it was obviously fun. Too bad for Barça, and congratulations to Inter,” he added, acknowledging the Italian club’s performance while not sparing a jab at the Spanish giants’ expense.
Adebayor, who enjoyed a short but memorable stint at Real Madrid during the 2010–11 season, then took the conversation in a more personal direction when Antala remarked, “I was told you’re from Madrid, but I didn’t believe it. Now I see it’s true!”
Grinning, the ex-striker responded, “I played for Madrid, so it’s normal. I can’t play for Madrid and support Barça. That’s the least I can do. You have to know how to put things into perspective.”
His words, delivered with a knowing smile, underscored his enduring connection to Los Blancos. Adebayor’s loyalty to Real Madrid, though expressed with a playful tone, was unmistakable.
His quick-witted comments reflected not just club allegiance but a footballer’s sense of pride and identity shaped by his time in the Spanish capital.
He continued to tease Antala, who is known to be an avid Barcelona supporter. “Too bad for you that you’re from Barcelona,” he quipped. “But hey, life goes on.
We’ll see each other again next year, God willing.”
Though his time at the Santiago Bernabéu lasted only a few months, Adebayor’s affinity for Real Madrid has clearly endured.
In just 22 appearances for the club, he scored eight goals and helped Madrid secure the Copa del Rey. It was an experience that left a lasting impression on him.
Now retired, Adebayor remains an outspoken and entertaining figure in football circles. His comments, made in jest but rooted in genuine club loyalty, are unlikely to win favour among Barça supporters.
However, they reflect a sentiment familiar to many footballers who carry deep bonds with the clubs they have represented.
Barcelona, meanwhile, continue to grapple with yet another disappointing Champions League campaign, while their longtime rivals and their former player watch on with a mixture of satisfaction and amusement.
For Emmanuel Adebayor, there is no ambiguity. Real Madrid has his heart, and when it comes to choosing sides, there is no room for Barcelona.
