Serge Gakpé, once a standout figure in the Togolese national football team, has officially announced his retirement, ending a career that spanned 20 years. The former forward, known for his stints with clubs such as Monaco, Nantes, Amiens, and more recently in Greece, shared the news in a heartfelt message on social media.

In his announcement, Gakpé reflected on the journey that shaped his professional and personal life. “After 20 years of career, I officially retired last May (yes, I’m only announcing it now),” he wrote.

“Thanks to all those who were part of this adventure: the clubs and their presidents, the national team, the staff, the coaches, my teammates, and my agents.

Obviously, I don’t forget the fans and all the great encounters that have marked my journey.”

A Journey Marked by Passion and Gratitude

Gakpé’s career took him across Europe, playing in France’s Ligue 1 and beyond. He began his professional journey at AS Monaco, later representing Nantes and Amiens, among other clubs.

Despite not being the most decorated player of his generation, his contribution to the game, particularly for Togo’s national team, remains memorable.

Reflecting on his career, Gakpé expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities football provided. “Football has given me much more than a job.

It has allowed me to meet people from all over the world, to travel, to learn new languages, and to discover different cultures and ways of thinking,” he said.

“These experiences have deeply enriched me as a human being.”

The 36-year-old also paid tribute to those who supported him throughout his journey.

“A special thank you to my family and friends, who have always been there, in good times and in difficult times. You have been my strength!”

A New Chapter in Fashion

While his football career has ended, Gakpé has already embarked on a new path. Since 2021, he has been pursuing his passion for fashion through his clothing brand, Unfolloworld.

In his retirement announcement, he encouraged fans to follow this new venture, highlighting his continued drive for creativity and innovation.

As Gakpé turns the page on his football career, his legacy as one of Togo’s notable players remains intact.

Fans will remember his contributions on the pitch, while his new endeavors promise to showcase his talents beyond the world of sport.
