The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has finally reached a decision in the Thissen-FTF (Togolese Football Federation) case, which has been ongoing for over two years. According to information reported by the local newspaper L’Union pour la Patrie, Jean Thissen, a Belgian coach and former coach of the Togo Eperviers, filed a complaint with the CAS alleging an abusive breach of contract by the Togolese authorities following his dismissal in October 2009.
After a prolonged period of anticipation, the CAS has ruled in favor of Thissen. The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) has been directed to pay Mr. Thissen an amount close to 200 million CFA francs in damages.
This development coincides with the resignation of the current coach, Didier Six, who has also taken legal action against the FTF. Six has initiated bailiff proceedings for a breach of contract, with the condition of settling his salary arrears. The recent decisions by CAS shed light on the ongoing legal battles within the Togolese football landscape
