Togo Coach’s European Tour Yields Positive Response from Dual Nationals
Tchanilé Tchakala’s recent trip to Europe appears to have paid dividends for the Togolese national football team. The Hawks’ coach embarked on a mission to persuade several dual-national players—who had previously been hesitant—to commit to representing Togo, while also holding discussions with key veterans such as Emmanuel Adebayor and Agassa Kossi.
According to Sport FM, a Togolese private radio station, striker Peniel Mlapa of FC Nürnberg, Matthieu Dossevi from Olympiakos, and Alban Sabah, who plays in Germany’s third division with Dresden, have all expressed willingness to don the yellow jersey.
However, these new recruits are unlikely to be available for Togo’s upcoming African Cup of Nations 2015 qualifiers against Guinea and Ghana. The sports authorities will need to fast-track the players’ paperwork and FIFA clearance if they hope to field them in later fixtures.
In addition to Germany and Greece, Tchakala also visited the Netherlands, where he met with central defender Mawuena Kodjo Amevor of Go Ahead Eagles, another target for the national team.
This proactive approach by the Togolese coaching staff aims to strengthen the squad with fresh talent and boost their chances of qualification for the continental tournament in Morocco.
