Togo is set to face Djibouti in a double-header as part of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 qualifiers.
With just two days until the first leg, Eperviers Dames head coach Kaï Tomety addressed the media on Wednesday, expressing both confidence and caution ahead of the encounter.
Despite a commanding 13-0 victory over Djibouti in 2023, Tomety remains vigilant about the challenge ahead.
Indeed, we have already played against this Djiboutian team in 2023, but I think it is no longer the same team, it is no longer the same coach, so we have to expect anything.
I know that the level of the players must have changed and I also believe that it will be another match, she stated during the press conference.
Togo’s preparation comes after a turbulent period following their elimination against Tanzania, which led to internal tensions within the squad.
However, Tomety reassured fans that the team is now focused and unified.
The atmosphere is very good. We are working in a very positive environment, and I promise the Togolese victory on Friday, she affirmed.
The coach further emphasized the team’s ambition to secure a spot at the 2026 AFCON.
Our objective is clear: to qualify for AFCON 2026.
We will play the Djibouti match to the full and we will score as many goals as we can find, she added.
Both legs of the qualifier will be played in Lomé, giving Togo a significant home advantage.
The first leg is scheduled for February 21, with the return fixture taking place on February 26.
A strong performance in these matches could bring the Eperviers Dames one step closer to securing their place in Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
