Togo midfielder Denis Abalo joins Libya’s Union Military on a free transfer

Togo defensive midfielder Denis Abalo has joined Libyan Premier League club Union Military on a free transfer from Al-Anwar.

The 23-year-old completed the move on 5 August 2026 and has signed a contract that runs until 30 June 2027. Abalo becomes a Union Military player after one season with Al-Anwar, where he arrived from Togolese club ASKO Kara in October 2025, also as a free agent.

Abalo has experience of Libyan football and African club competition. He has made 13 appearances in the Libyan Premier League, scoring once and providing one assist. He has also played four matches in the CAF Champions League, scoring once, and featured four times in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The midfielder was born in Lome and represents Togo. Standing at 1.75m, he operates primarily in defensive midfield and is naturally right-footed.

Before moving to Libya, Abalo spent time with ASKO Kara and ASC Kara in Togo. He joined ASKO Kara from ASC Kara in July 2023, following a spell with Dynamic Togo that began in 2019. His move to Dynamic Togo came after a loan spell ended.

Union Military have secured Abalo without paying a transfer fee, adding a midfielder with experience in domestic competition and continental football to their squad. The player’s market value is listed at €100,000, while his new agreement keeps him at the club through the end of June 2027.

Abalo’s arrival marks his third club move in just over a year, following his switches from ASKO Kara to Al-Anwar and now from Al-Anwar to Union Military. The latest transfer continues his career in North African football after his earlier development in Togo.

He is now contracted to Union Military until 30 June 2027 after completing a free transfer from Al-Anwar.
