Burkina Faso Women and Nigeria Men Triumph at Zone 3 IHF Junior Handball Tournament
Burkina Faso’s women’s team and Nigeria’s men’s team emerged victorious at the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Zone 3 Junior Tournament, held recently at the Lomé Municipal Stadium.
In a closely contested women’s final, Burkina Faso edged out Benin with an 18-14 win to claim the championship. Meanwhile, the Nigerian men secured their title by defeating Benin 38-33 in the men’s final.
In the classification matches, Nigeria’s men continued their strong form by beating hosts Togo 32-21, while the Togolese men clinched third place by overcoming Ghana 27-24.
The final standings in the women’s tournament saw Burkina Faso take top honours, followed by Benin in second place, Nigeria third, Togo fourth, Ghana fifth, and Niger sixth.
On the men’s side, Nigeria topped the leaderboard, with Benin finishing second, Togo third, Ghana fourth, Burkina Faso fifth, Niger sixth, and Ivory Coast seventh.
The finals were officiated by some of the tournament’s best refereeing pairs: Alix and Christiane from Ivory Coast for the women’s final, and the Aduayi brothers from Togo for the men’s final, both praised for their outstanding performances.
