TOGO: FIFA CONFIRMS EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS FOR NOVEMBER 4, INITIATED BY FTF
FIFA has officially endorsed the Togolese Football Federation’s (FTF) request to hold a statutory (extraordinary) congress on November 4th, replacing the previously scheduled ordinary congress. This change comes as the FTF’s current mandate is set to expire at the beginning of November.
In a letter sent to the FTF—published in the October 24th issue of the local daily Agni l’Abeille—FIFA clarified that this congress will focus solely on one agenda item:
“The election of the members of the Electoral and Independent Commission.”
While this decision has sparked skepticism among some local analysts and observers, FIFA confirmed that the initiative came directly from the FTF, not the international body. FIFA merely acknowledged the federation’s proposal and gave it procedural approval.
This congress is a key step in the renewal process of Togolese football governance, with the appointment of an independent electoral body seen as crucial for ensuring transparency and credibility in future FTF elections.
The full content of FIFA’s letter—now made public—has helped dispel uncertainty surrounding the legality and intent of the congress.
