Togo: Coaching Shake-Up Hits First Division as Title Race Heats Up
With just six matches remaining in Togo’s top-flight football league, a wave of coaching dismissals has swept across clubs as teams scramble to steady their seasons and salvage points.
Following the sacking of Jules Koudjodji by Dynamic Togolais last weekend, ASKO de Kara have become the latest side to part ways with their manager. Barkola Kpatcha has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the club after their 2–0 defeat to AS Douanes on matchday 18.
Kpatcha’s departure marks a pivotal moment for ASKO, also known as “Kondona de la Kozah”, who now sit 7th in the league table with 19 points. The club has recorded 5 wins, 4 draws, and 7 defeats so far this season. In response to the managerial shake-up, assistant coach Bonfoh Arimiaou has been appointed on an interim basis.
ASKO’s move reflects a broader trend among first division clubs as pressure mounts during the final stretch of the season. Gbikinti de Bassar have also opted for change, parting company with their head coach following a string of poor results. The team had endured four consecutive losses, prompting management to act.
Marc Kouevi has since been appointed to lead Gbikinti and will be tasked with revitalising the squad and halting the club’s slide in form.
The series of coaching changes highlights the high-stakes environment in Togo’s domestic league, where results in the closing stages can shape not only league standings but also the futures of club managers and players alike.
As the race to finish the season intensifies, all eyes will be on whether these mid-season changes can turn fortunes around—or whether they’ve come too late.
