Togo Football: Anges FC Regains Leadership Position

Anges FC Regains Top Spot in Togolese Premier League After Administrative Win

BBC-style report – under 500 words

Anges FC has reclaimed first place in the Togolese first division championship following a controversial but decisive ruling by the Togolese Football Federation’s (FTF) Homologation Committee.

The Notsè-based club had been trailing since the restart of the second half of the season but was awarded three points “on the green carpet” after AS Togo Port was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player. The player in question was still registered with Anges FC, and his transfer to AS Togo Port was deemed incomplete.

This administrative decision proved pivotal as Anges FC went on to defeat AS Douanes 1-0 in Sunday’s 19th matchday fixture, strengthening their position at the top of the league under coach Lantame Ouadja.

Meanwhile, Sémassi remains in second place, trailing Anges by just two points. The Tchaoudjo Warriors secured a narrow 1-0 away victory against ASKO, demonstrating their intent to challenge for the title.

AS Togo Port, despite losing the three points off the field, managed to hold Gomido to a goalless draw, keeping their hopes alive in the title race.

In the capital city, the Lomé derby between Dyto and Agaza ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with both sides sharing the spoils.

Recent Results:

  • Anges FC 1-0 AS Douanes

  • Dyto 2-2 Agaza

  • AS Togo Port 0-0 Gomido

  • Maranatha 1-0 Foadan

  • Gbikinti 0-0 Unisport

  • ASKO 0-1 Sémassi

Current League Standings:

1st — Anges FC, 36 points
2nd — Sémassi, 34 points
3rd — AS Togo Port, 28 points

11th — Gbinkinti, 16 points
12th — AS Douanes, 15 points

The league remains highly competitive as the season approaches its climax, with Anges FC now leading the charge for the championship. The administrative ruling highlights the ongoing importance of regulatory compliance in the league, with off-field decisions proving just as crucial as on-field performances.

As the title race intensifies, all eyes will be on Anges FC and Sémassi as they vie to claim the coveted Togolese top-flight crown.
