Togo’s National Football Championship Set to Kick Off on May 3
After a period of uncertainty over the number of clubs to participate, Togo’s national first division football championship is set to resume on May 3, 2025. This announcement came following a crucial meeting held last Tuesday at the headquarters of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF), where the executive board confirmed the start date and outlined the final structure of the league.
The decision to settle on 12 clubs was the result of productive discussions between the FTF and the Ministry of Sports, particularly after a meeting last Friday with Prime Minister Arthème Ahoomey-Zunu. While FTF President Gabriel Améyi had initially advocated for a 14-team format, he ultimately accepted the consensus decision for a 12-club league.
“This is a pivotal moment for Togolese football,” Améyi said. “Everything is ready for the restart. We urge all league clubs to take the necessary steps to ensure the championship commences as scheduled.”
The decision marks a turning point for the country’s football scene, which has faced various challenges in recent months. The championship’s restart is expected to breathe new life into domestic football, with clubs and fans alike looking forward to an exciting new season.
As the new season begins, attention will be on how the league’s clubs, players, and officials work together to overcome the previous obstacles and establish a competitive, well-organized championship.
