TOGO: FIFA CONFIRMS THE RESUMPTION OF GOAL PROJECTS

On Tuesday, FIFA announced the resumption of its financial assistance to the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) through the Goal II and III projects. This decision follows a monitoring audit of the management of previous disbursements within the framework of the Financial Assistance Program (PAF) in 2011 and the aforementioned projects. FIFA has decided to renew its commitment by financing the D1 and D2 championships.

In order to oversee these matters, FIFA has planned a new mission in Lomé at the end of September. During this mission, representatives will meet with the Executive Office of the Togolese national body and stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the project. This comes after FIFA suspended all subsidies to the FTF last month due to suspicions of embezzlement and mismanagement of funds intended for football recovery in Togo.

After facing years of challenges within its football administration, Togo is working to revive its national sport with the support of FIFA. The national team, following three consecutive absences from the Africa Cup of Nations, is on the brink of making a return to continental prominence. However, achieving this will depend on a positive result against Gabon on October 14 in Lomé. In the first leg of the CAN 2013 qualifiers, Togo’s national team, the Eperviers, secured a 1-1 draw against the Panthers in Libreville.
