Togo Football Federation in Conflict with Government Over Coach Recruitment Process
Lomé, Togo – Tensions are escalating between the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) and the Ministry of Sports over the recruitment of a new coach for Togo’s national football team. The FTF has expressed frustration over its exclusion from the process, following the announcement that interviews for the five pre-selected candidates began this week.
While the Ministry of Sports has indicated that it plans to establish a separate committee to handle the administrative phase of the recruitment process, the FTF has voiced concerns about political interference in the decision-making process. The Federation argues that such actions undermine its authority and the importance of a transparent, football-focused approach to hiring the national team’s coach.
Gabriel Ameyi, the president of the FTF, has made his displeasure clear, criticizing the way the recruitment process has been handled. He emphasized the importance of the Federation’s involvement in choosing the right candidate for the position, especially given its role in overseeing football in Togo.
Sources had previously indicated that the new coach for the Hawks of Togo would be announced this week, but due to these ongoing disagreements, the recruitment process may be delayed further. The situation has led to growing uncertainty regarding the team’s future direction as the nation seeks a new coach to guide them in upcoming competitions.
The tension highlights the complex relationship between the government and the FTF, as both parties navigate issues of governance, decision-making, and the development of football in Togo.
