Togo Football Federation Prepares for Leadership Overhaul Ahead of November Congress
The Togo Football Federation (FTF) is set for a major reshuffle as its current board nears the end of its term, with a pivotal congress scheduled for November. In anticipation of what is expected to be a contentious general assembly, clubs across the country are moving swiftly to reorganise their leadership structures.
The current FTF board, led by President Gabriel Ameyi, will see its mandate expire on 4 November. In preparation for the upcoming vote, top-tier and second-division clubs, including Ameyi’s own club Maranatha of Fiokpo, have either renewed or restructured their executive committees. Regional leagues across the country have also followed suit, in a bid to be in good standing ahead of the vote.
The proactive changes come as FIFA has requested the FTF to provide a definitive list of eligible voters for the congress. This has prompted even non-voting clubs in the second division—such as Gbohloe-su and ASFOSA—to hold internal elections, selecting new leaders during their respective congresses to align with national governance standards.
Gabriel Ameyi, also known by his full name Gabriel Mawulawoe Kodjo Kuma, is a former member of Togo’s National Assembly and has led the FTF since his election four years ago. His tenure has seen moments of tension and reform, and the upcoming election could shape the future direction of football governance in the West African nation.
With the general assembly drawing closer, the political and sporting stakes continue to rise. The restructuring within clubs signals a broader effort to ensure compliance and readiness in what promises to be a closely watched and potentially transformative electoral process for Togolese football.
