TOGO: ALAIN HARPE TO SUCCEED DIDIER SIX?

Togo’s national football team is set to undergo a coaching change as Didier Six has resigned from his position as the head coach. The former Valenciennes player announced his decision on Fréquence 1, a private radio station in Togo. Despite his resignation, Six is expected to fulfill his contractual obligations, including coaching an official match against DR Congo on September 6, the last day of qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup.

The process of finding a replacement for Didier Six is anticipated to take a few months. For the upcoming match in September, Tchanilé Tchala, assistant to Six, is likely to take charge, assisted by physical trainer Alain Harpe, who might be promoted to the deputy position. Application files for the coaching position are expected to be opened at the end of the year, possibly in late November.

Alain Harpe, known for his work during training sessions, is seen as a potential candidate for the coaching role. His understanding of the Togolese environment, mentality, and relationships with the players could make him a strong contender. Despite some past criticisms of Didier Six, Harpe is expected to be in consideration.

Several names, including Patrice Neveu, Gernot Rhor, and Claude Leroy, are mentioned as potential candidates for the coaching position. Togo, constrained by budget limitations, may seek a coach with modest salary expectations. While various names will be considered, a local coach is likely to be excluded from the selection process. The search for the next coach for the Togolese national team is expected to unfold in the coming months.
