**Agaza of Lomé Clinch TLS Elite Cup Trophy After Penalty Shootout Victory**
Agaza of Lomé triumphed in the TLS Elite Cup on Sunday, defeating Tokoin’s Black Scorpions 7-6 in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw after regular time. The final, which lacked clear scoring opportunities, highlighted the technical struggles of both teams, particularly in midfield.
The goalless draw was perhaps a reflection of the long competition hiatus since November 2014, a gap that tournament organizers sought to address. “We organized this tournament to provide a much-needed competitive outlet for Togo’s clubs, who have been without action for a year,” said Robert Daba, the General Director of Elite Foot, the organization behind major football events in Togo. “It is an honor to do this, especially on the anniversary of Togo’s first sports television channel.”
Despite the lackluster performance, the Agaza squad was overjoyed with their victory. “After such a hard-fought final, it’s a great achievement for Agaza to come out on top,” said Jean-Pierre Nougblega, president of Agaza. “The joy of winning was evident on the pitch. I can only imagine how the atmosphere would have been if we hadn’t won. This cup is an encouragement for me, and it will motivate us to work even harder, with the players taking greater responsibility for the team’s success.”
The competition, which began on September 18, featured eight teams from Togo’s first and second divisions, alongside various training centers.
