Mlapa Peniel Explains Absence from Togo’s AFCON Qualifiers, Cites Administrative Issues
Togo’s national team striker Mlapa Peniel has clarified the reasons behind his absence from the recent African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Ghana. The Nuremberg forward, born in Togo but raised in Germany, has cited unresolved administrative formalities between the Togolese and German football federations as the cause.
In a letter addressed to Togo’s coach Tchanilé Tchakala, Mlapa expressed his honor at the invitation to represent his country of origin but lamented the delay in processing his eligibility. “To this day, the Togolese federation has still not contacted the German federation to sort out the administrative formalities,” he wrote.
Despite the setback, Mlapa remains hopeful about his future with the Hawks. “I wish the best for my country, hoping that victory will accompany us and that I will be with you next time when I am burning with desire,” he added.
In his absence, midfielder Matthieu Dossevi has pledged his readiness to step up and join Emmanuel Adebayor’s squad for the upcoming matches. The Togolese team continues to prepare for the crucial qualifiers amid efforts to resolve Mlapa’s eligibility issues.
