Titi Camara Suffers Second-Degree Burns in Domestic Accident, Now Recovering

Former Guinean football legend and ex-Minister of Sports Aboubacar Sidiki Camara, better known as Titi Camara, is recovering in hospital after suffering second-degree burns in a domestic accident at his home in Conakry. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2014, and was first reported by Foot224.

The accident happened while Titi was cleaning his property alongside a gardener and a young neighborhood volunteer. In an attempt to burn garbage, the volunteer mistakenly poured ten liters of gasoline—instead of the requested one liter—on the pile before igniting it, resulting in a sudden burst of flames.

“Luckily, I turned my back, and the flame hit me. Luckily, it was God who saved me,” Titi Camara said, describing the frightening moment.

The burns affected both of his legs (from ankle to knee) and one arm. Thankfully, he is in stable condition and receiving good care at Ambroise Paré Hospital, despite the logistical challenges posed by Guinea’s broader situation:

“It’s starting to get better… The arm is already healed. From the wrist to the elbow,” Camara added.

Camara, a national icon and top scorer in the history of the Syli National, remains in positive spirits and expressed gratitude for the care he’s receiving and the outcome, which could have been far worse.

“It was almost a miracle,” Foot224 quoted a source close to him.

The football community in Guinea and abroad has expressed relief and support for Titi Camara during his recovery.
