Timothy Weah urges Marseille to react after Monaco loss

Timothy Weah did not hide his frustration after Marseille’s 2-0 defeat to Monaco, saying the team lacked the intensity needed to compete at Stade Louis-II.

After an opening-day 4-0 win over Strasbourg, OM looked flat and were punished by a sharp Monaco side led by Paris Brunner’s brace.

Weah, who started at right-back, spoke honestly after the final whistle and accepted that Monaco were simply better on the night. He said Marseille must reset mentally, return to training and keep working together rather than drawing big conclusions from only two league matches.

The American international also pointed to the team’s need for more aggression in duels and clearer commitment across the pitch. His comments fit the mood of a disappointing evening for Marseille, who never really found their rhythm after Brunner struck early and again after the break.

Even so, Weah’s message was not negative. He stressed the season is still young and insisted the squad has enough time to respond. For Marseille, the challenge now is turning that honesty into a sharper display next time out.
