Sherwood Looks to Reunite with Adebayor at Aston Villa
The potential reunion between Tim Sherwood and Emmanuel Adebayor could become a reality next summer, according to The Sun. The Aston Villa manager is reportedly planning to bring the Togolese striker to Villa Park on loan for the 2015/16 season.
Sherwood and Adebayor share a strong history, having worked together previously at Tottenham Hotspur, where Sherwood was manager before moving to Villa. It was under Sherwood’s guidance in December 2013 that Adebayor rediscovered his form after falling out of favor with former Spurs manager André Villas-Boas. Adebayor had previously spoken highly of Sherwood, praising his managerial approach and friendship. “He treats all the players the same. He’s a great man. He’s a friend, and as a former footballer, he knows exactly what this job entails,” said Adebayor.
However, there is one major hurdle to the deal: Adebayor’s hefty salary, estimated at around €8 million per year. Despite this, Sherwood remains optimistic about reaching an agreement, with the player’s future at Tottenham looking uncertain. Adebayor, who is under contract at White Hart Lane until 2016, is not expected to be part of the long-term plans at Spurs, making a move away from North London increasingly likely.
Sherwood’s potential loan move for Adebayor would provide the striker with a fresh start in the Premier League, while also offering Villa a proven goal scorer as they look to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season. The deal remains contingent on negotiations over Adebayor’s wages, but with the two men’s positive relationship, this transfer could be one to watch in the summer.
