Tiago Pitarch to remain with Real Madrid first team despite loan interest

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has decided that teenage midfielder Tiago Pitarch will stay with the first-team squad for the new season, rejecting loan proposals from several clubs, including Fulham, managed by former Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa.

Pitarch, 19, will work directly under Mourinho despite being officially registered with Real Madrid Castilla. The arrangement is understood to be linked to the large number of players already registered in the senior squad, but also reflects the Portuguese manager’s confidence in the young midfielder’s ability.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Pitarch will remain under the first team’s supervision throughout the campaign rather than returning permanently to Castilla or moving elsewhere to gain experience.

His displays have strengthened his reputation as one of the most promising young players in Spanish football. That progress had left him facing three possible routes for the coming season: staying with Real Madrid’s senior squad, returning to Castilla on a permanent basis, or joining another club on loan.

Mourinho has now settled the issue by selecting the first option.

Pitarch’s preparations were briefly interrupted after he suffered an injury during his first training session with Real Madrid following Spain’s European success. Medical reports indicate that he should be available again in about a month.

That recovery timeline could allow him to take part in the final stage of pre-season preparation before the start of the competitive campaign. The injury therefore represents a temporary setback rather than a change to the club’s plans for him.

Mourinho’s decision represents another commitment to Real Madrid’s academy system as the club attempts to balance its investment in established stars with opportunities for emerging talent.

Pitarch’s progress over the past season appears to have played a significant part in that approach. Rather than sending him away immediately for regular football elsewhere, Real Madrid have opted to keep him close to the first team and continue his development within the club.
