Atletico Madrid have reportedly made Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey their top priority as the summer transfer window approaches.
According to Marca, the Ghanaian international is regarded as “the greatest desire” for Atletico Madrid, who are eager to bring him back to the Spanish capital.
Partey, whose contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, is highly sought after, with other major clubs such as Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also keeping tabs on the player.
However, his strong connection with Atletico, where he previously spent several seasons, makes him a likely candidate to return to his former side.
Partey’s potential move to Atletico is seen as a major goal for the club.
As Partey approaches the end of his contract with Arsenal, it is believed that his familiarity with Atletico’s playing style and environment makes a return to the club an appealing option for the 31-year-old.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has remained tight-lipped regarding Partey’s future, offering a brief response when asked about any progress on the player’s contract situation.
“Yes, there is progress with all the players,” Arteta said. “I’ll leave that to (sporting director) Andrea (Berta) and the club to decide and to talk about.”
Should Partey leave Arsenal, it would mark the end of a key chapter in his career under Arteta.
If Atletico succeed in signing Partey, they may shift focus to other potential transfers, including Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur.
