Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations 2025 journey ended in heartbreak, but the message from Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o was clear: pride, resilience, and a renewed focus on the future.
Following the Indomitable Lions’ quarter-final defeat to hosts Morocco in Casablanca, Eto’o delivered a passionate and emotional speech in the team’s dressing room, urging players to see the setback as a stepping stone rather than a defeat.
A video shared widely on social media captured the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker addressing the visibly upset squad.
He praised their determination and commitment, highlighting that the players had upheld the nation’s pride despite the controversy surrounding officiating decisions.
“Seeing you sad, I have tears in my eyes,” Eto’o said. “But you accomplished it like the Cameroonians you are. I can only be proud of you.”
Eto’o reminded the players that their efforts had resonated with millions of Cameroonians, elevating the team’s collective achievement above individual disappointment.
“I know my small person represents nothing in front of the 30 to 35 million Cameroonians who are proud of you,” he added. “I tell you all thank you for all your contributions.”
The CAF legend also looked ahead, urging the squad to transform the loss into motivation.
“This is our first victory, guys, believe me,” he declared. “The next AFCON, we are coming to win it. Hear me well, boys, and start preparing from today. We will take our revenge.”
Finally, Eto’o recognized the technical staff, medical team, and officials for their professionalism and unity, emphasizing the absence of internal crises.
