There is massive potential to improve the African game – CAF 2nd Vice President Kurt Okraku

Kurt Okraku, the newly appointed Second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), believes the growth potential for football in Africa is boundless.

The sport is experiencing a positive shift on the continent, highlighted by strong performances from African teams in international competitions, including Morocco’s remarkable run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) also garnered widespread praise, with both local and international audiences lauding CAF for organizing “one of the best tournaments in recent years.”

Okraku is confident that even greater strides can be made, a vision he shares with the newly elected CAF Executives.

“I think the potential is massive. There has been a complete reorganisation of our international competitions (AFCON especially), increased investments by CAF and an enhanced club licensing regime by CAF,” he told Asempa FM.

“I think the potential to grow the African game is limitless. That’s why we need to support Dr. Motsepe to finish what he has started.”

Okraku’s new role sees him join Faouzi Lekjaa, who has taken on the position of First Vice President, following the replacement of Senegal FA President Augustine Senghor.

Okraku now succeeds Ahmed Yahya in the Second Vice President position, a change officially confirmed by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe on Saturday, April 26, 2025, during a press conference in Accra.
